Certain clothes are never acceptable in public. Shoes with lace-ups on the square toes in pleather brown, for example (though they were popular in pubs in the provincial provinces in the 90s, if you remember) or, in fact, the crotchless chaps.
Once thought to be reserved for singing Mitteleuropean young men and hairy guys in sexual clubs shorts made of black leather were, up until recently, part of the camp mentioned earlier and condemned forever to live on the marginal sartorial fringes.
This was before British designer Daniel Lee took the creative direction of Kering’s leather goods label Bottega Veneta and put a huge pair of black Bermuda shorts that have a boxing-style elastic waistband at the center of the Spring Summer 20 collection.
The PS50-note-thin leather, designed to infuse the wearer with sexy sexuality (all while maintaining his groins air-conditioned) Shorts were soon incorporated into the closets of the elite menswear collection. The fashion director of this magazine Luke Day was pictured in Milan wearing a pair as was the fashion director of the German biannual 032C magazine, Marc Goehring, who wasn’t seen out during the duration of the SS20 fashion season in London, Paris, and Milan.
The good thing is that, now that the style has been able to get established, you don’t have for being a fashionable guru to be able to wear the same pair. From Bottega Veneta’s spacious pyjama-style shorts and Prada’s timeless black leather Bermudas it’s all about making the other fabrics that you wear less shiny, yet still dark.
The previously mentioned Prada shorts, paired with a large double-breasted coat in black grain wool and an oversized celluloid vest in cream stylish and chic and Ludovic of Saint Sernin’s’Berghain’-ready set (pictured) in the photo below will be best complemented by the softness of a silk shirt in dove or ivory and paired with a pair low-key slippers.
Additionally, a good set of leather pants is the perfect outfit for this bizarre trans-seasonal time in which classic shorts would be too cold and pants would be giving in to winter way too easily.
